Anne Hathaway Remembers The Moment She Was Told To Lose Weight For a Role When She Was 16

Anne Hathaway was just breaking into Hollywood in 1999 when she first came into contact with body shaming. In a new interview with Allure magazine, the Oscar-winning actress dived deep into her past and revealed the moment that Hollywood told her to lose weight.

Anne, 36, told the publication that she landed her first role on the short-lived drama series, Get Real, in 1999, when she was 16-years-old.

She spoke of what the series told her to do soon after acquiring the role. "At 16 years old, it was ‘Congratulations, you have the part. I'm not saying you need to lose weight. I'm just saying don't gain weight.'"

"Which, of course, means you need to lose weight," she continued. “So I had that, then 20 years later I have Ane Crabtree the costume designer for her upcoming film The Last Thing He Wanted asking me what my body does on my moon — which I realized meant my period — so she can make adjustments for me. It was just this beautiful thing."

The Hustle star added she's cautious about how Hollywood is changing. "I am cautious in my praise of how Hollywood is shifting. There is so much more body inclusivity—which is great—but the thin thing is definitely still the centralized ‘normal' expectation," Anne said.

Anne revealed that she had to gain 20 pounds. to prepare for her role in The Last Thing He Wanted.

The Ocean's 8 actress is also currently pregnant with her second child. She revealed on July 24 on Instagram, "It’s not for a movie...⁣⁣#2⁣. ⁣All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love ?."
